Death On Holiday

Death On Holiday

A Poem by Brett Pritchard
"

A poem of ruminations upon the human condition....

"

Death never takes a holiday, it never needs a break.

Death never stops to reconsider, it never makes a mistake.

Death is logical, death is cold, death is utterly certain.

Death is everyone's final stand, death is the final curtain.

Death is your friend, death is your foe.

Death is always with you, death never has far to go.

You feel his presence and tremble with fear, death is close by.

Death is always here.

But never when you look, always out of view.

You can't be sure you saw him, but you did.

Death was looking at you.

He was there the day you were born.

There were many souls upon that day he seized.

There have been many more in the days since.

And yet still death is far from pleased.

An endless onslaught, a bottomless pit.

An ever growing list, a point which we all must hit.

It's coming.

You can feel it, you can see it it's all around.

You can hear it on the wind, the chilling and ominous sound...

And yet....

Why fear it?

Why fear it? Why go near it?

Why run? Why hide?

You cannot outrun time and it's tide.

So laugh at death, chase it.

Terrify death with your smile, threaten to embrace it.

Live, run, dare to be like lighting.

There are far more interesting challenges than death to be fighting,

Don't see him as your nemesis, as your ultimate one true enemy.

See him as a reminder, a companion, there are no second chances and there never will be.

Life leads to death, and it's the only path we've got.

You might as well enjoy the ride, it's your one only shot.

Shine bright, shine true, live loud until it stings.

Give all you have then give it all again, that is how one wins.

Death isn't so bad, it's just a conclusion.

The last page in your book.

There are so many pages you've yet to see.

Just turn this one over and take a look....
