WinterA Poem by Brett PritchardWe've all been here I'm sure. Hurt, alone, but ultimately safe. Until one day the ice melts and we face danger anew but joyously.
The winter descends A welcoming embrace of cold and comfortable solitude The summer beautiful though it was… Far too bright for me Too much to be seen, too much to be felt, too much to hurt me The cold warms me The feeling is without joy, yet bountiful in the relief it offers From here I see all clearly and true… But it can’t see me I feel without feeling, bleed without bleeding, I live without breathing The winter is long During this time my heart freezes, it may never thaw but that’s fine Frozen without a beat its safe… Unbreakable and solid I’m not unhappy here, I’m content in this place, my sanctuary gladdens me The cold won’t stay One night I meet springs first beautiful flower, and begin to thaw suddenly She melts my icy exterior with patience… Discovering me anew Summer is here and I walk in the light, can this be……?
