Trust

Trust

A Poem by Brett Pritchard
"

Fool me once shame on me. Fool me twice shame on you. Fool me again and I start to see. Those days are over, you're done fooling me.

"

If I cannot define upon whom to depend.

If I cannot determine what is mine to defend.

If I cannot be certain upon whom to rely.

If I cannot be sure of what is truth what is lie.

If I stand among allies and are treated as foe.

If I have my opinions and can’t let them show.

If I’m accused of guilt while acting in defense.

If I’m lambasted for speaking while others sit on the fence.

Then how can I continue to nourish the untrue?

How can I lie, pretending not to see through?

In pursuit of distraction we do that which we must.

But there is no price that can be put on trust.

And while one knock may wound us while another enhances.

One thing of which I AM certain is NO SECOND CHANCES.

I'd like to make it clear that this is a non political piece.
Rather it is about friends who let you down and how you have to learn where the line is between forgiveness and stupidity.

I caught your meaning in this piece and it did not come acrossed as political but a lack of trust in those we feel we should trust. I like this
