We Now Live in All the Tomorrows They Never Cared About

We Now Live in All the Tomorrows They Never Cared About

A Poem by Brett Hernan
"

In memory of Scott McCrossen.

"

Surging

plaster

wave

Thought

it

almost

Missed

me

Small

recording

to

increase

intelligence

You

look

You

view

how

You

view

you

Are

not

looking

Really

looking

are

you?

Dragging

in

the

stalls

For

the

night

past

not

looking

The

same

Different

walking

Past

he

Looks

hard

She

looks

Soft

the

kid

Doesn’t

look

deep

fried

salt

sweet

Alphabet

hand

waving

garbage

bag

Closing

order

ready

In

skin

that

has

never

Before

seen

light

Glance

over

The

shoulder

Tasting

only

all

The

grit

of

an

accusation

Of

humanity

When

you

come

to

The

place

where

Neither

thought

nor

feeling

can

ever

Be

hidden
