On the Last Day of Winter

On the Last Day of Winter

A Poem by Brett Hernan
"

Dedicated to the memory of the woman who smiled at me as I walked by, yesterday, in the Hobart bus mall in the last hour of the final day of Winter, 2017.

"

Iris
folds, in light

skies
blue,
petal

fabric,
crinkled,

Surrounding,

a
spherical
darkness.

A
reflective
pupil,

wherein,

despite,
what

you,
might
believe,

it
was,

truly,
impossible

for
anyone,

at
all,

ever,
actually,

to
really

know
what

was

going
on

behind
them.

Ahhh! A brief glance, a charged moment beautifully described. Love the minimalist form, flow and cadence that lends to dramatic pauses, perfect words..."Iris folds, in light skies blue"- amazing dazzling image. Love this!
