Dear Abbie
A Poem by Brett Hernan
In recognition of the man whose underground instruction manual, 'Steal This Book', made the New York Times top ten best seller list, (much to his chagrin).
Abbie Hoffman and the other Yippies, once, temporarily stopped all trade on New York's Wall street stock exchange by throwing, like confetti, handfuls of one dollar bills from the public viewing gallery down on to the trading floor.

Abbie devised some amazingly powerful demonstrations against what he saw as unjust. My favourite was when the Yippies took old WWII air raid sirens into a city street, played machine gun fire through them at full volume and then had members of the party feign death after bursting bags of fake blood whilst others stood around holding placards that read,
'If you think this is bad? Try being there!'
That's how you get the point across!

He was amazing. He turned demonstrations into an art form. Protest Poets- God, we need them now...
