Bond

Bond

A Poem by Brett Hernan

James Bond
was
successfully
authorised

effectively,
to recruit

more,

enlisted
volunteers,
since
they
do,

so
often,

die.

The initial,
required test
of loyalty,
of any spy,
is to inflict
some obscenity,

atrocity,
emotional
breach
of trust,
toward one
of
their closest
and most
dear.

Unless
the effects
of this act
can be
registered
as
successful
by the
observing agents
over
a
reportable
time,
the initiate,
secret agent,
may not,
be placed,
actively
on field service.

Even
the detection
of
a scintilla,
of
mercy,
disqualifies.

They're a stock,
in constant depletion.

It would only
seem logical then,
to take it to
the nth degree.
