Impossibly Forgotten

Impossibly Forgotten

A Poem by Brett Hernan

semi-completed

half blown away

crossword puzzle,

encrypted msg,

ornamental carousel,

languorous long slow afternoon

something hidden

in the shade,

a storm coming,

windows open

curtains moving in the wind...

Falling

end to end

from the edge

of clouds

unseen against

a Moonless night sky

precisely carved

ornate colossal

marble pillars

dispensed

thrown

in uniform

conveyor belt

regularity

to drop

under gravity

to reach

terminal velocity

to impact upon an iron

ground pulverized

upon contact

into dust cloud tufts

of fine marble powder

pouting along

lines formed

which are the cracks

appearing

instantaneous

to create

mounds

of crushed rock.

The darkest

and coldest

portion of the night

is always within

the hour

just before

the first sign

of the Sun's

reappearing.
