Chapter 5: The forbidden Hybrid

Months had now passed when we heard the news that this was the end of the first term of school. After this, we were allowed to return to our homes for the holidays. I couldn’t wait; two and a half weeks from Ominous and this whole mystery of the Silver Moon sightings sounded like a great deal. Tarrynkora and I promised each other to keep a look out for any sightings of any Silver Moon members during the holidays. Today was the second last day of the term and the seniors were all planning a big party to celebrate. They had all set up the open area with tables filled with food, party balloons, three disco balls were tied to a long, electrical cable and they even got Ezier to Dj. For a bunch of creatures, they sure knew how to throw a mean party. I guess you could call them party animals, if that’s fitting.

I heard that a huge arena was going to pop up from the ground when it was time for the ‘End of term duel’; this was competition for the students to test their abilities against everyone else. The winner would be crowned king of the beasts. There were different categories though; three to be exact. The first category was for all students above senior rank. The second category was for juniors to early seniors and the last category was for us new bloods. Each category had a winner; meaning there would be three kings of the beast, one from each category. I was planning on entering; and I was determined to winning, but then I found out that Ominous was also entering. Don’t get me wrong; I love a good competition, but with anyone but him. If he won he would make me look bad, bad as in weak. Weak as in I couldn’t even save that pixie. I was almost killed, if it wasn’t for Ominous. You know what they say; what doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.

It was now eight o’clock pm; thirty minutes till the party started. I wore my best suit. It was white with silver cuffs and a silver collar. I also wore a silver tie to go with the outfit. I don’t mean to brag, but I looked good and not just good-good, but really good; great in fact. You get the point. Tarrynkora had chosen to wear a blue tux with a black collar, black cuffs and a black tie. Siren and Ryuki both wore the same outfit; a full black tuxedo with silver cuffs, a silver collar and a silver tie. They almost looked like twins. As for Cody and Oblivion, well, we were going to meet with them at the party. Surprisingly, no one had dates; I was hoping that this included Ominous as well. So Ezier, Tarrynkora, Siren, Ryuki and I all left our dormitories and made our way towards the open area.

When we arrived, the place was already full. I could hardly see where Cody and Oblivion were. I made my way towards the dance floor, when I saw, Ominous. He was dancing, with the pixie; the girl we had saved before. If he wasn’t a student here I’d say he was the leader of Silver Moon, just saying. I tried to get over the fact that he had a date already and I didn’t. For the rest of the party I just stood near the Dj, which was Ezier, and made suggestions of songs for him to play. As time went past, the party got wilder. Ghosts were playing mean tricks on people; pixies were drinking too much punch, elves made terrible jokes and the vampires, did nothing. Alas, the time for the duel had arrived.

A large duelling arena, about the size of football field, had sprung out from beneath the ground. There were seats all around for the students and teachers to sit and watch from. Lord Meyio came out and onto the arena, wearing a purple tux and introduced the challenge. “Welcome students, to the first end of term duel. The first category will compete first, followed by the second and then lastly, the third. Only rules are; no killing other students. Have fun!” When he was finished, a senior student, by the name of Phoenix, came out and stood at one end of the arena. He was then followed by yet another senior student named Melvin. Phoenix was a ghost and Melvin was a Vampire. They both took their battle stances and waited for the match to begin.

A large horn was played to signify the beginning of the match. At this moment, Melvin had already grown his vampire fangs and his eyes had changed to a crimson-red colour. He charged at Phoenix with the help of his vampire speed. He looked like a blur, about to run into the innocent Phoenix. Just as he was prepared to strike Phoenix, Phoenix’s body went transparent and Melvin’s attack went straight through him. Melvin was now behind Phoenix, unaware of what Phoenix was about to do next. Phoenix swivelled his body around and took hold of Melvin’s right arm; he then tossed Melvin a great distance in the air, before hiding away underground. Melvin, whilst he was in the air, flipped himself upright and landed on the ground with a thud. He took a quick look around the arena, looking for his opponent, then, as if he knew he was there; he swung around in a one hundred and eighty degrees rotation and kicked Phoenix in the head. It was amazing how Melvin knew where Phoenix was without even looking at him. Phoenix went flying in the air and smashed against the wall that trapped them inside the arena till the battle was over. He then fell, head-first, towards the ground and lay still for a while. After 4 seconds, he got up and dusted his body. He looked over at Melvin and said, “Really, you’ll have to try harder than that.” When he said this, all the ghosts in the crowd screamed with cheer and applause, as Phoenix had represented them as brave, tough and strong. The battle continued, til finally, Melvin had pinned Phoenix on the ground. All the vampires in the crowd cheered; their representative had won the battle for them. More senior students entered the ring, fought and came out either a winner or a loser, until there was one winner in the first category; Melvin the vampire. It seems that after his battle with Phoenix the ghost, he had been winning ever since. The juniors, up to early seniors, all battled each other, till an elf named Zachariah had won in this category. It was now the new bloods’ turn.

Ryuki was the first of the werewolves to enter the ring and he was versing an elf named Dakota. When the horn had been blown, the two started to attack each other. Ryuki entered his wolf mode, whilst the elf took out a magic spell book. Ryuki, not taking the elf seriously, went on right ahead and charged at him. The elf chanted the words, “eht nommus i: retsnom kcoR” and immediately, from beneath the ground, a huge rock-like monster appeared. The rock monster was at least twice the size of Ryuki. Ryuki, now noticing the beast, turned left and came at Dakota from the side, but the rock monster simply moved to the left as well and blocked the wolf boy once more. Ryuki then decided that to be able to attack Dakota, he first had to destroy this monster. He turned to face the monster and charged towards it.

When Ryuki got close to the beast, he let out a loud howl, before leaping towards the beast’s chest. He drilled his claws into the beast’s chest, but nothing happened. The huge rock monster then took hold of Ryuki by the chest and flung him six meters away. The wolf had been badly damaged, but he got up, turned to face the monster and tried again. This time, instead of leaping at its’ chest, he decided to strike each limb of the monster, one by one. He first broke its’ left leg, then its’ right, then its’ right armed and finally he stroked its’ left arm. It was now just a body with a head. He abandoned the monster and went towards the creator; Dakota. Dakota had seemed to run out of magic spells, until…Zap!! He had zapped Ryuki with his staff. Ryuki returned to his human form and was out cold for the rest of the event; Dakota had won this battle.

All the other new bloods versed each other, including me and my friends. Most lost to each other and had some won, til it came down to me and Ominous. We both entered the ring. This was the fight I had been waiting for. Finally I could prove to everyone that I am stronger than Ominous. The horn was just about to be blown, suddenly; smoke appeared near the centre of the arena. I didn’t know what was going on, Ominous didn’t seem too sure either and everyone else in the crowd was just as stunned as us. As the smoke began to clear, we could now see 3, human figures. They were all wearing silver capes, with hoods covering their identities. Could they be, the Silver Moon? The one in the middle came walking slowly towards Ominous and I. Lord Meyio ran quickly and stood in front of us. I looked around; all the Teachers were escorting all the students away from the arena. I now knew that these people were in fact, Silver Moon. This was the moment of truth; maybe this was the moment that I would finally get to see what the members of Silver Moon looked like. I looked over at Kurenzo, he was frozen with fear, or was he? Last time I saw someone frozen, it had turned out to be the doings of that weird lady. Wait, that’s it. I looked back at the three figures, and then stared closely at the one standing left to the one in the middle; immediately, her hood came off. Her face was that of a human’s, but her hair was made up of hundreds of small snake-like creatures. I couldn’t believe it; I had seen the first Silver Moon member. I looked over at Kurenzo and lord Meyio and just as I suspected; they were trapped by one of her pythons, but I wasn’t. I looked at the person that was standing right to the one in the middle; his hood had also come off. I wouldn’t have guessed that Phoenix was a member of Silver Moon. At last, I looked over at the one in the middle, but his hood was still on. I had seen but two of Silver Moon’s members.

The last member of Silver Moon did not reveal his identity; I suspected he was the leader. He began to speak for the first time, “Sorry to barge in like this, but I couldn’t risk having to wait till the holidays were over,” He had a deep, alarming voice; not like a human’s. He went on saying, “This here is Phoenix, but I think you two have already met before. To my left, is Medusa; she is one of us. She is also my wife. She has been spying on you for the past few months and has not given me the information on you that I needed. So I plan on taking it myself.” Did this man or thing expect me to willingly tell him information about me that he may later on use against me? I decided to give him a piece of my mind, “Who do you think you are; breaking in the school like this and then interrupting our duel? Do you honestly expect me to tell you, a complete stranger, information about myself that you may use later on against me?” At this moment, I had worked up the courage enough to back-chat him; he didn’t seem all that powerful under his hood, but I was wrong. After hearing me say those words, he was raged, angered and annoyed. He let out a loud howl and it hit me like a tornado, sending me flying backwards in the air before falling flat on my backside, sixteen meters away from him. How was this possible? Not even the strongest of wolves could produce a loud enough howl to actually use it as an attack. In fact, it was more of a roar than a howl. Who or what was is this man? Before I could even stand up, he had come as close as forty centimetres in front me. He had the speed of a vampire; he did this in the blink of an eye. He looked down at me and I saw would haunt me for the rest of my life, because what I saw was neither a wolf nor a vampire; but a mixture of both. When the last of the three men took off his hooded coat; he appeared to have the body of a dark-furred werewolf, with the wings of a bat. The wings seemed to take up thirty per cent of his body, whilst the other seventy per cent was his wolf-like body. I now knew how he was able to inflict such a powerful attack on me; with only one howl. He was indeed, the forbidden Hybrid.
