An Almost Black And White NightA Poem by Brendan_SikesDownpour in the city streets again, Young couples under umbrellas so plain, And old men holding newspapers overhead, Warding off the rain.Downpour in the city streets again, Young couples under umbrellas so plain, And old men holding newspapers overhead, Warding off the rain. I stand alone on the curb, about to lose hope in this dream As black and white as it could be. And then there she is, like a bird on the sunset, oh Like a red rose in crystal snow. Amid the rainy night and white street lights, She is the one I've dreamed of, Now I know. Like hot scarlet velvet, oh Like a cool breeze when it blows. She’s crimson under the streetlamp, Her dress like a bright ink stamp. And there she is, waiting in the rain An umbrella overhead, a blushing stain Against the smudging charcoal streets. And just that is enough to make my heart sore, Out here in the downpour. © 2015 Brendan_SikesFeatured Review
