The First Touch

The First Touch

A Poem by Bria Mars
"

A paralyzed woman feels for the first time.

"
The first touch
A feeling much
Like that of a child's first one.

What have you done
To make this feeling so?
How could I have lived so long
And not known
This sensation.

Oh how strange is pain,
How strange is softness,
How cool is the rain?

But I can not understand
Either way
How my body moves
Like sun rays
Or how I can feel them
On my skin.

Warmth and coolness
I may let them in
With the condition
Of feeling discomfort

But I can feel
And that is a wonder.

Now I feel like a child
I feel reborn
I feel as though
I am in a different world.

I feel cold, I feel warm
If I held a rose
I would feel the thorns
And it would hurt.

But I can feel
And that is wonderful.
