Touched by Uncle Sam

Touched by Uncle Sam

A Poem by Darren Brown
"

Reflecting on the concepts of government, jurisdiction, authority and sovereignty. Interesting and revealing etymologies.

"

Single file suicide march led by

drunk men in uniforms

aggressively stumbling in a bar.

“Don’t you know who I am?”

Wonder how often you ask yourself that.

She was a little girl playing hopscotch

and now she’s a shadow painted on the ground.

Don’t want to add oil to the fire of your authority,

all we’ve ever wanted is to be left

alone.

Wow, I really love this. Great sense of perspective from someone outside of the material benefits of certain countries global policies. Succinctly put and very well written, I literally couldn't fault this, thanks for writing it!

I use poetry as a means to come to a deeper understanding of myself, and the world that I'm a part of. So most of my work is a combination of introspective and extrospective, figuring out how I relate.. more..
