The Intoxication of Love

The Intoxication of Love

A Poem by Brittany Raine
"

No rhymes, no patterns, just words.

"
And at this point in life I believe we have all experience our first love.
I believe by now, we have dipped our toes into the pure warmth that love offers.
I believe we have gotten knee-deep in clear, salty waves of emotion and pain.
I believe we have all felt the sun on our face and the burn on our backs from too much of this all powerful thing.

This thing that consumes us.
This thing, this thing that completely reverses everything we have ever believed to be true.
Because before this ocean, before this sun, before this person, you believed that such a love was out there.
You believed that you were deserving of such a thing.
Such a passionate and intimate thing.

But is anyone really deserving?
We believe we are.
We believe we are capable of being love's caretaker.
We believe we possess the ability to change not only our most personal feelings, but that we can alter the emotions of the deep and vast oceans just by our pure existence.

It's a sick thought really.
That we think that we are enough for someone.
That we are immediately what they deserve, what they desire, what they wish to bask in.
But are we?
Are we their ocean?
Are we their salty water streaming from not only their eyes, but also their internal sockets?
Are we enough?

I digress.

I believe we have all felt these emotions by this point in our lives.
If you haven't, I don't know whether to say bless your soul or to wish for your ignorance to be enlightened.
But I know these feelings, these ripping and strangling emotions are the deepest I have ever felt when I am with you.
