Taking

Taking

A Poem by Brandon York

Come and find me

in the cloak of winter

when the crimson embers

flicker on the dark-lit

pockets of my window box

there within the ever shaded

fever rooms

my flesh will bloom

into the wild mane

the ripple of the beast

and crude machine

let my cure

paint your body

wet like chrome

and stain your mouth

with purple swell

let me break into your ocean

with the tongues of

secret dawn obsessions

I will breathe your name

in boiling whisper

as the unconscious seasons

tumble past like rain

there will be no hours kept

no asylum from my craven will

we will grow a garden

sprouting drunken troubadours

and mythic creatures

whom will bestow upon us

totem names

I will always wake

before your eyes have shuddered

and leave drops of honey

on your lips

my salt will linger

long within the pocket

of your palms

that hold the shape

of gripping even

in the hollow of my absence
I will break your heart
but always put the pieces
in my mouth

we will swim too deeply

always past the parable of shores

drowning every night

within the furnace room menagerie

of promises and nightmares

that we conjure and dispel

let me posses you and

remain forever captive

in your blood

Every time I read this one I'm caught - as though I've been flailing in the ocean and suddenly am netted peacefully and carried along the warm waters to safety
