Queens

A Poem by Brandon York

In the taxi, almost dawn, my arm
asleep around the seatback
breathing your perfume and the
hot, sulfuric winds pouring in
through half-open windows
I had seen the look
inviting me into your mouth
standing on that corner
bars all closing
and I did not speak those words
but watched the screen instead
hoping somehow I would win
another night like this
