Clapboard Walls

Clapboard Walls

A Poem by Brandon York

clapboard walls
the dust
of gravel alleyways
soles camped out
in summer
whiskey
pressed to
gun-shy lips

strangers asked
for spelling
and their god
in primary colors
like wordless apologies

you gathered nectarines
for a Harvest Moon
banquet
your long-ago's
your decades
on the wind

there
in the corridor
taken by
a fire
faster
than the smoke
