The Uprising

The Uprising

A Chapter by Brandon Lee Cochran

Today is the day. The day of the dance. The day of the uprising. I've already increased the security around Necropolis encase someone decided to try and get in. We we were all preparing even though we had about two hours till the dance. It starts at 8. Angel and the children were preparing. Weapons weren't allowed to the dance, nor was armor. Though I didn't care.
I stood on the balcony, the light already fading and the night taking it's dominance of the the sky. I looked out at the hall. Everyone in the two kingdoms would be there. No doubt some tension will be in the air. My hands were pressed against the railing. The paleness of my skin was a lot brighter under the coming moonlight. I wore a black suit. The dress pants were close to skinny jeans, the cufflinks on my shirt were silver skulls. A sleeveless jacket lay like the shirt, tight against my torso. A tie with skulls on it was tucked into the jacked. I felt like I should be on some vampire anime.
Angel stepped onto the balcony beside me. She wore no sign of tension. A black corset showed her elegant curves and matched perfectly with her gothic ballgown. Her black hair down to her waist. I smiled at her ''You look beautiful, love.''
She smiled back ''And you look like a dark prince.'' She giggled.
I raised an eye brow ''Oh, so I'm Ozzy now?'' I said like the English rocker. We laughed.
''Only an hour to go. This should prove to be entertaining.'' I said dryly.
''You've always loved blood shed.'' she said shrugging.
''Yes, but not on such terms like this. It's disdainful.''

It was now the hour of the dance. We approached across the long bridge that was above the abyss. Millions were behind us waiting to attend the festivity. As we entered the Hall tables were lined everywhere. Our thrones were moved to dais that looked over the hall and the others that joined the fest. In front of the thrones sat a long table with food already prepared. Angel and I went up first, the children followed. Alice sat beside her mother and Alex sat next to me. Losier was next to me enjoying a nice glass of blood, Madi sat next to him. Next to Alice sat Aaron and Janie, I wasn't too thrilled by the fact he was by my daughter but I let the grudging thought go.
No guards were stationed in the room, just as I had expected. Aaron stood, tapping a spoon on his goblet of beer and the room silenced. He spoke ''The Accords of Unison have been signed, and I am proud to say that our two kingdoms may be joined together. Those whom you've lost during the dark year now return to you without the foreboding of conflict. Let us feast to this great day, and, of course, get drunk off our asses!'' and with that he tilted back his goblet till the beer was gone. Everyone cheered and the feast began.
The food was delicious and was prepared wonderfully. A raw, freshly cut steak was sitting on my plate, the blood still dripping from it. I glanced at the clock on the wall. I won't be long now till the party will be crashed and political power mine. Only five minutes to go. I lifted my glass of blood and looked to Aaron ''To the people.'' I said grinning.
He raised his goblet of beer and had the same dark grin of victory on his face ''To the people.'' he repeated. And we drank till there was a matter of seconds left.
I turned to Angel ''It's time.'' She nodded.
At first everything was normal and nothing happened. Then, the wine glasses began to quiver. The tables start to shake. A loud screech from out side was like a piercing cry of a wolf after a kill. Aaron turned to me and glared. I met it with a smile. The wall to the east side broke free, bricks caving inward. Walking through the debris and dust came Elizabeth, in full armor, two swords drawn. Then following her were Reapers. Aaron jumped up and shouted for guards. I chuckled. I raised my hand and pushed with my mind and a dark mist shot out holding him against the wall. He struggled to get free.
I snapped my fingers and and a cloud of darkness covered my body and then disappeared, leaving me in my full armor and weapons. The guards already arrived from the Haven, I was surprised by how quick they were. But they were immediately met in combat with Reapers. They were being torn down like a scythe to wheat. Blood covered the hall. Madi and Janie ran for cover. Losier, unsure what to do, followed trying to avoid the combat around him. Aaron was still pinned against the wall. I drew my sword. The thick curbed blade of black and red steal felt right in my grip. I walked over to him smiling.
''You're mad.'' He said, struggling against the dark energy that pushed him against the wall.
''Actually I'm quite sane. I just want to help my people. Remember Aaron? For the people.'' I chuckled. ''I'll give you a choice. Submit and call the guards off before they all die horrible deaths or die trying to keep me from winning this battle.''
    ''I'd rather die!'' he spat.
I shrugged ''As you wish.'' I called of the energy and he fell to the ground.
He finally got up and he changed into his immortal form. I chuckled yet again ''You're still a flamer.'' He charged at me a giant sword of rock and magma me my blade. With little effort I held the stance. Then my blade slid from his and met his leg. Sparks flew from the impact, but lava was seeping from his leg. He growled.
''You're not winning this.'' I said with a cocky grin.
His blade met mine again in another shower of sparks. Or faces inches away.
