Cigarette

Cigarette

A Poem by Light
"

the title says it all...one for all us smokers out there...

"
February 2011

I chain smoke
Linked thoughts
And drag in sanity
With toxic breaths.
I Inhale hot embers
Of smoldering truth.

My smoky words

Give way to thought.
I question existence
In the tips of
Burning cigarettes;
Slowly watching
Inflamed reason
Trade life for ash.

I liked this alot. The poem was metaphorical and pondered the complexities of life.

This a treat for all smokers. like the line " my smoky words .. give way to thought"
Smokin is so hard to quit.. people say if you have the will power you can do it. So, I tried it's been 2 weeks.
And .. um .. um.. Wat the heck? Am gonna have a smoke. Keep Smokin. Like the movie The Mask says ... SMOOOOOOOOOOOOOKINNNN !!

I'm in the process of quitting, it's a hard slog, but...I'm hopeful.
This is almost metaphorical because of your clever use of language, I loved it!!

This is but a metaphor about life. Great imagery. Clever write. Keep writing.

yup - i have often pondered why the heck i have let myself smoke....the inhalation is like you say - burning the question of existence...inhaling life and suffocating it at the same time....perhaps numbing the thoughts like a pasiphier.

I like this so much, specially the short structure and the last :
Slowly watching
inflamed reason
trade life for ash.
sounds hard...

I like how, in the picture, the lit part resembles the brain
There's is quite a bit of reason.emotion encased in the solitude of smoking
People who've never smoked may not understand
they call it death wrapped in paper
but I think it's as much an immunity to the toxic/repressed thoughts around us

and isn't it so true, seeing reason inflamed and truth smoldering
seeing my half burned, half demolished house walking away from the sunset w/ trees and hues in the backdrop was one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen

How do you compare despair to watching television?
when you find out, lemme know
until then I'll just keep reading and relating
