Keeping Up With The Times

Keeping Up With The Times

A Poem by Brandon Hontz
"

Self explainatory.

"

Simple,
slender beams of light,
peaking out from the window.
The morning has come;
the moon has sailed across all of the sky,
in a mere 8 hours, we rest until we can't keep our eyes closed for any longer.
Until we can't be blind anymore.
Artificial colouring, artificial feelings,
how nothing in the real world is even that real anymore.
Maybe it's been drifting away from me for a long time,
but I guess when things go slow you barely notice the change,
something that only time could mask so well.
If opposites attract then why is pluto so far from the sun?
I guess it makes sense in a way,
when I see someone with such a bruised heart,
just barely crawling to the people that could never make you feel alive
in
all
the
ways
that
I
could.
I knew it was love once,
and then I knew it was love twice,
and if third time is the charm why is it so hard for you to talk to me?
It's a given that I was never given.
I waited a long time...
a really long time.
I never said a word to you,
but it's just because I could never tell how I was feeling when you would look me straight in the eyes.
I wanted to shout at you,
I wanted to cry on your shoulders.
I wanted to hate you,
and I wanted to kiss you as much as I did the first time that we had ever even thought about it.
When the winter came,
all I could think about was the summer,
and how bad it was for the both of us,
and how I always blame it on myself.
Now, summer is here,
and I can't stop thinking about those nights that I spent always anticipating every second of every day.
The winter semi-formal,
the place right next to the hang out spot,
that little path that i've always felt was ours.

Sorry;
one more to add to countless times.

It's really funny,
how you're playing the same tricks I pulled on you, now.
Maybe it's not on purpose,
I don't know,
but it just gets to me,
and oh,
i'm sure you know
just
how
much
it gets me.
I've been dreaming about you constantly,
whether I like it or not.
I've been thinking about the countless times i've ran away from home,
just to end up back here all the same.
I've been thinking about how i'm sick of reading,
and hearing,
and singing other peoples words,
when I just would like to make my own melody to memory.
I've learned the best way to get through life is to take all the backroads,
because the main ones are busy, take the most time.
It's no place to enjoy the sunsets,
or to watch the waves.
It's no place to look up at the sky,
and it's no place to call home.
I would rather get out and walk through the woods,
run along the beach.
Lay down on my back,
and look up at the sky,
either seeing clouds,
or stars.
A spectacular site to remember forever,
or as long as forever takes you.
I've been a lot of places,
seen a lot of things,
and met a lot of people,
and I can't help but feel both like I have seen all there is to see,
and that I haven't seen anything yet,
and I guess it's just good that there is
the hope
that we have a
lot longer
to go.

I'll see you around;
maybe not tomorow,
maybe not the next day,
but one day down the road,
or whenever you decide you're ready,
i'll be seeing you around,
and that's the best that I can do,
but I hope you know everytime I look in your eyes
it's just another time i've fallen in love with you.

This is beautiful. The rawness of your emotion is wonderful, and I especially loved the backroads bit.

"A spectacular site to remember forever,

Amaaaazing.
