Ode To AutumnA Poem by Brandon HontzEverywhere you go, you'll see the twilight; the sunsets in piles of leaves. That pink light right before it turns to night, and all of the colours in between. Once in awhile, we'll hear the sound of falling rain, and we all rise up to walk to the windowpane. It's funny how you can drench the scenery, but the sight itself maintains all of it's beauty.
The leaves, turning colours, disbonding from their homes, falling down, turning green brown, straight into the unknown. These soldiers have earned the right to sleep, they've held on for so long, their shades just unable to keep. I remember always burning these heroes, remember the smell of the smoke. Watch them as they turn to ash, destroying all of their hope.
This is darker then the summer, that is for sure, but the light that has dummed makes it all the more. Like breathing in gold, the memories left in mind. I could never leave these moments behind. It's starting to get cold though, I can tell by all the little signs.
A new start to the school year, new books to carry. Nothing to fear, even though things are scary. We're losing ourselves, and finding ourselves, we're falling just like the leaves. You can find all the love, you can better yourself, all you have to do is believe.
Apple pie by the plenty, it draws me deeper with it's aroma. The sweet cinnamon taste, often reminds me of vanilla. That in turn reminds me of young love, the kind that only makes you feel like heaven really isn't above. It's the here, and the now, and I never could begin to tell you just how.
Oh how could I leave out the night of Halloween. All the candy, sweet sugar, always makes the childrens eyes gleam. Scary things placed about, witches, and vampires. We know "They're not real.", but whoever says that is a liar. As these days pass we start dreading oncoming winter, but everyday into the cold will bring Fall even closer. © 2008 Brandon Hontz
