What is it that truly makes a man?

What is it

that truly makes a man

 

Is it knowing he is weak,

knowing he is strong

 

Is it when

he’s willing to die

to ease someone’s pain

 

Is it pride,

the pain he holds back

to be someone’s anchor,

with no request

of help in return

 

What makes a man,

truly a man

 

Is it his word

or the pain

he endures

falling to his knees,

crying to God

for help and salvation,

only to hear

the emptiness

of his soul,

echoing the screams of pain

back at him

 

Is it him stepping back

to allow happiness

to pass by,

letting it reach the one’s

that he loves

 

The happiness

he feels he can’t offer

whilst hiding

deep in the shadows,

as not to interfere

 

When is it

if ever…

that one finds the answer

to such…

a complicated question

 

what is it

that truly makes a man

could it be his mind

or his heart
