The Candle

The Candle

A Poem by Brad Nugent
"

Written for the Creative Poetry group: using the words flame, imprint, quiver, arrow, pursue, contrive, subjugate, ambrosial, voluptuous, indulgent

"
have you ever stared into the depths
of a candle flame for such a time
you could see the imprint quiver still
dancing even when you shut your eyes
have you ever dared to just inhale
the ambrosial scent of molten wax
and contrived to pursue fantasies
hidden long inside indulgent thoughts
have you ever cared enough to love
subjugated self to other's want
succumbed to voluptuous intent
felt that arrow shot into your heart
and are you then besotted and sure
so prepared to give it all away
for the one who lights the candle true
just to guide and show your soul the way

This is stunning and amazing how you conveyed this deep emotions these deep thoughts. The first stanza caught my attention and the whole poem held it. The last stanza sums up the thoughts and feelings very well.

beautiful...wonderful

Great beginning--the words were entrancing, but at the same time your message was clear and easy to understand. The ending tied it all together excellently. I felt like the third stanza didn't flow as well as the others, though (which is hard to avoid when you set the bar so high). Each line is more of its own phrase, whereas in the other verses, everything seemed more connected.

This is lovely! I think it's one of your best so far!
I for one like the whole package. Try dressing up your font, add a pic? I think it adds to the feeling. Your words are wonderful, just dress it up! Or you can tell me to shut up. ;)
Well penned!

We don't choose whom we love...just whom we like. Love is sooo many things to so many people... but, in the end - its freely offering the one thing of value we own - our SELVES - to another and we sooo hope they don't take it and use us up lightly.

You made a thoughtful work here... it loosened my thoughts.

Take care,
Chris

It must get boring just hearing me say that 'this' is your best work yet, but, crikey - your writing just gets better and better. There must be a well-spring of muse and experience for your talent to draw upon and transmogrify into art. This was just beautiful; pure and simple.
