Meeting On A Stormy Night

Meeting On A Stormy Night

A Poem by Brad Nugent

fragmented glass behind the bar
betrays a collage of splintered bottles
it must be somebody's idea of art
neo-maxi modernist fusion
or perhaps surreal delusion
demystifying the sober reality
but still you said you liked the place
so I agreed to find you there
fashionably late as usual
you sauntered inside
and stirred the stale air
all Holly Golightly breezy
and well behind leaving
the nobodies enclosed in peak hour
cocooned combustible rage
the nobodies covered with plastic
wrapped and sheltered from angry rain
all weaving and woven long paths
intersecting the wavering lines
and splashing the surveyed
refractions of neon
into a nether worldly state
of melodramatic demise
where things remained but never stayed
a universe where we don't collide
at the corner of Picasso and de Sade.

Corners are where our minds make them...

Good flow and after taste...

Every time I read this, I find another wonderful thing about it. The first line that stood out to me "it must be somebody's idea of art/neo-maxi modernist fusion/or perhaps surreal delusion" - can't explain why but I loved the sound of that line.

I love the last line. many times we can get along with someone even love them but we never truly collide in spirit with them so it is better to stand back and watch with magic eyes.

It tempers on the acratic, with an almost Elizabethen feel to the plotted nature of the word, well done, good read.

When i read this poem aloud, I found it had something of a hypnotic quality to it.

The lines "fashionably late as usual" and "Holly Golightyly Breezy" give an air of free spiritedness that cannot be trapped in the mundane!
