Social Networking

A Poem by Brad Nugent

tip tap typing
to a world filled
with friends
abbreviations
all instant and
aptly distended
with smileys
then send
with the dexterity
of a nymphomaniac
on a double strength
aphrodisiac
swallowed down
with something
fluid and
effervescent
changing the font
in size and form
to something
more suitable
to discern
the coherent
from the silent
maltreated
who pour out
their damage
and vanish
as one

As a true Facebook addict I can tell you that I found this so funny and, as always, there is so much truth behind the humour!

When i read the lines:
with the dexterity
of a nymphomaniac
on a double strength
aphrodisiac
swallowed down
with something
fluid and
effervescent

I had to laugh out loud!

A great write and as always you are so clever with language. I wish I had your gift

Hmm. Sorry if I wasn't too clear with this submit: I am running behind with the weekly words / challenges. In future I will label to avoid confusion if I am not up to date. Thanks for jumping in and clarifying for me Danger Kitty! And welcome to Writers' Cafe!

I have only just started on writers cafe and only just joined this group... I have just read a review of this piece asking the writer if they knew what the group was about. My understanding is that this group is about stretching yourself as a writer by using words provided by someone else to create a piece of writing. It encourages us to write outside of our usual genre and to stretch our vocabulary at the same time.

This writer has done exactly that... and he has done a brilliant job of it. It is a commentary on the nature of social networking and the so called friends that we have... who we may actually know nothing about or ever see!

I think it is clever, creative and amusing so... I ask you Eclipsing Moon-blood red ... do you really know what this group is about???

I am sooo guilty of the smiley face syndrom. I believe that you nailed facebook to a T. I truly enjoyed this piece.

I hate face book. It's so superficial. I could give a rats a*s about what you had for breakfast!? This free form of poetry was a pleasure to read.

On another note, I do care about that kind of stuff here. It's all about presentation.

If I didn't know you were addicted to FB I'd suggest that there may exist just the smallest portion of irony within this confession/poem ... it's a great read! Visual metaphors and curious descriptions void of emotion or passion, just like the inane banalities of facebook afficionados. Very good, subtle yet biting satire, with wit and craft. A pleasure to read as always!

I love the use of language in this - a proper wordsmith. An amusing and appropriate read, thanks for sharing!
