Maintenance Request

A Poem by Brad Nugent

an avid amateur god forges the covenant

with all the confidence of a gauche caribou

searching for remnants to keep hunger at bay

dribbling creations onto ice-shrouded hooves

refusing to note that all things must decay

in spite of convenient promises strewn

round tables and think tanks and asphalt balloons

while inconsistent shadows fail to hold sway

over brittle white heavens that casually fade

tarandus bemused by a second-rate rainbow

planted with adamance into virgin snow

marked by the most evident absence of arks

these facts are sufficient to addle the mind

of any observer who craves the sublime

very hard words for the group this week and I must admit I haven't tackled them!

As always, your use of language is so clever and there is always an air of ease or casualness to your writing despite the fact that it is more than likely carefully crafted!

"a gauche caribou" and "second rate rainbow" are some of your most inventive mataphors yet. I like the way you explore how we seek the sublime but are blind to nonetheless. Damn good writing!
