Chemical Sanity

Chemical Sanity

A Poem by Brad Nugent

plunging headlong

into the labyrinth

of a mind gone wrong

some pathways submerged

beneath a sea of serotonin

while others in the same demesne

thirst for the mantic one

to gently guide the way

and pervert the awkwardly

chosen course

deny the sardonic tone

inside a head so well concealed

by labret wearing grins

an ego carefully conceived

like a burning mountain

beneath its dome

all a-simmering and scone

and drowning with deceit

ignore the ill-intentioned voice

and follow far from Eris reach

though bedlam will try to dissuade

we will negotiate and breech

the paradisiacal centre

of the enigmatic maze

and safely harbour there

away from all judgmental gaze

This is an extremely creative take on the words for the week!

Thanks Jeremy. Eris the planet - named for the Greek goddess of discord 8-)

Is that Eris the planet or a typo for Eros? Either way this is brilliant stuff. Deep psychologial insight into insanity, yet the self-doubt and nightmares are scary for being so recognisable. Few could do this well - you have done this magnificently. You even weave into this an empathy that is nearly tangible. Magnificent.
