Alcoholic Euphoric

Written for the Creative Poetry group.

it's all in the title

like a brand on a bottle

beckoning

oh so enticing

when sober

and then

that first velvet taste

so good

but not eternal

like a childhood forgiven

a sinful mistake

a peripheral glimpse

a short segment of time

so

of course

more is required

just one more

then another

until

a delirious moment

defying remembrance

restores the balance

until morning arrives

with its mocking sun

and hurtful extrinsic reality:

the unwanted intervention

from those usual bedfellows

forging yet more unbreakable bonds

with guilt and regret.

This is spoken so truly. I can't imagine what it is like to have this addiction but you have captured the thoughts and the emotions clearly. Day after day of drowning out yesterday. It never does really help.
