I Have

I wrote this poem for my Creative Writing class a while back. The style was taken from another poet but the poem is still mine. I posted this because it was the first time I felt the shape of my voice

I have parents. I have parents because they adopted me.

I have a red coffee cup. It’s my favorite because of the color red. 

I have disillusionment. I didn’t get into art school. 

I have Anthony. I have Anthony because we became best friends.

I have a fruit bowl. It’s filled with apples and oranges. 

I have a pen. My fingers draw the alphabet. 

I have a clock. My next hour is invested in it.

I am persistent. I am persistent that has not yet become dedicated.

I have to write more. I have to write more because the less I do the longer the page becomes.

This is really interesting. Turning random objects into thoughts, and random thoughts into a poem. It's positive, but other than Anthony and your parents, it kinda makes me feel like you are lonely or bored. When I'm bored, I look around and observe things. Like, "oh hey, there's a cup, my favorite cup. I have a fruit bowl, it's fascinating." But hey, that's just me.

The original poem is, "I Have a Horse," by Tomaz Salamun. The structure of the poem was that every sentence begins with "I Have." He had many objects and also listed certain attributes. Our assignment was to follow the structure but to use our own things and identify how the individual lines made our identity. At least this is how I saw. When you have a list it's kind of random but put them together and you had an idea. I am kind of lonely though, haha.
