Control is Power

Control is Power

A Poem by Hayllie

The world is all about power.
Trying to be more powerful than someone else.
Governments overthrowing one another, cities becoming unknown lands for the taking
and then people. People letting others control them.

Your heart is a powerful tool
but in the wrong hands, that power becomes control
Where you can go. What you can do. Who you can talk to. What you can wear.
Control comes in many forms
For some it's the face of a partner, a husband, a parent, a sibling...

Then you include marriage, it's own type of control
A paper; factifying that you no longer are your own person
You suddenly become the object to someone else.
He controls you. Your life, your heart, your mind.

Tearing you down mentally, and emotionally; but keeping far from the line of physical.
You feel pressured, and in a small box. You want out
but getting out is harder than it was to get in.
Some days are good..bad days are hell.
God help me you cry alone, but it never comes.

Emotional and mental abuse carries and now you have children.
"If you leave, I will take them from you and you will never see them again.."
A whole new abuse only a mother will understand.
So you stay. You cry at night when your children are asleep, because
you have to be strong for them. You pretend in the day, force a smile, but the day is coming.

Now roles reverse. You are the emotional abuser, as he begs for forgiveness
but it's to late. To many years, and revenge is to sweet.
A candy of sorts that brings an evil smile to your lips.
Time for control to find a new master.

Since our country is torn asunder by the power tripping that's constantly happening, I sorta want this poem to focus on this power arena, but then your message goes mostly into a domestic direction, which is how most people experience this firsthand. I have never been married (I'm 64) exactly for these reasons. Since I am a strong outspoken woman, it seems men are even more determined to control me. I have known so many women who've taken the path you describe & men have said & done exactly what you write -- using the kids as control chips. I was lucky to be the youngest of 9 kids, so I got to watch it all unfold for my 5 older sisters. That's when I decided to stay my own boss. Very strong vivid realistic details to paint a scorchingly honest word portrait here (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Wow..... what a unbelievably powerful write. I didn't expect the ending at all. Do they deserve it? A part of me wants to say yes. Maybe, you are just too good of a person that you feel remorse for giving it to them.
