5: Who or What Is She?

5: Who or What Is She?

A Chapter by Hayllie

"She'll be OK in a few weeks, it's just a broken rib. You should really be more careful with her. She's not a wolf Greyson." Micah explained sternly. He had carried her inside to the couch and sat with her, and soon after she had fell into a peaceful, deep sleep in his lap. He had decided to let her rest, but had called the elder Micah to check on her. "I know Micah. I didn't mean to hurt her." "You may not have meant to but you did; and it's worse that she's your mate. Of all people she is especially one you should take care of. I'll be back to check on her later." Micah said. Greyson watched him disappear then looked down at his sleeping mate. He couldn't figure her out. She was stronger than any other human he had ever seen, but he didn't understand. If she wasn't human what the hell was she? "Luke I need you." Greyson mind linked his beta. A few seconds later Luke appeared in the living room. "Alpha you needed me?" Greyson looked at him meanly and shushed him. Luke looked down at her sleeping, and quietly apologized. "I need you to find me anything you can on her. Birth records, hospital records whatever you can. I want to know everything I can get about her." "Yes alpha but.....How am I supposed to do that? She's not even told us her name so I don't even have anything to go on." Greyson thought about that, then it suddenly hit him. "Micah took some blood from her. You can find out at least who she is by that if she's in the system for the humans anyway at the least." Luke bowed his head slowly and left quietly. Greyson took a deep breath and laid his head back on the back of the couch. His breathing steadied as he began to sleep. Wrapping his arms gently around her, he felt so at peace.

Luke, Derek the delta, and a few other pack members stood in Luke's office looking through paperwork and books. "Are you sure she's even human? I mean we have been studying for hours and can't find anything about this girl." Derek complained. "Look Greyson wanted us to find out about her, and that's what we are gonna do. Now stop complaining. Micah should be calling any minute with the results from her blood." Luke sighed heavily, as his cell phone rung suddenly. "Hello? Hey Micah....what?.....yeah. That's all you could find? OK thanks Micah." Luke sighed again and hung up the phone. "What did he say?" Mathew, another pack member asked. "Well her name is Sydney. She's twenty-seven, from Dallas Texas. No known family or relatives living." Luke explained looking at them. "What else? Is that it?" Derek asked. "He couldn't find out if she was human, or werewolf or what." They all sighed. "I better go tell Greyson." Luke walked out of the office towards the living room.

He was sleeping soundly, with her laying atop of his chest. They had obviously shifted at some point, now both stretched out the length of the couch. When Luke walked in, he was trying to be as quiet as he could, but managed to wake Greyson. He groaned, rubbing his eyes before looking up to his beta. "Hey...what did you find out?" Greyson asked, gently sliding out from under her. She moaned softly and he froze. He laid her back down on the couch and followed Luke out of the room back into the kitchen. He stretched, sitting down on the counter top. "Well her name is Sydney. She's twenty-seven from Dallas; but she has no known family or relatives from anywhere. The last known relative was her parents who were both killed right in front of her when she was just a kid." Greyson sighed heavily and hung his head. "So she was telling the truth when she said she's been on her own since she could remember." Luke added. "No wounder she's so damn headstrong." He growled at the fact that his mate, weather he wanted her to be or not, had been so alone her entire life pretty much. "It still doesn't make sense that the council wants her so bad. I mean I know that humans are outlawed but if she really was just a human, she's not that special that they would put this much effort in to trying to get her?" Greyson asked still confused. "I don't know dude. I mean we couldn't find anything on if she was human or not; Micah said her blood work said the DNA was unclassified so who knows what she is. One thing for sure though, she's to strong to be a human." "That's for sure." Greyson rubbed his cheek remembering her less than explosive right hook she had given him. "I mean she could be something different all together. She's no vamp or witch, but there's a million different things she could be." "Yeah but how do we narrow that "million things" down into a specific category?" Luke sighed now sitting across from him on the opposite counter. Greyson thought a moment. "I'll try and call around and see if we can get some friends to help; but as of right now nobody is to know anything about her." "What about the pack? They'll know somethings up." "We can tell the pack everything, we can't hide anything from them, especially anything like this; but as far as our neighboring packs....not a word about her. If and when the rumors begin to float that a human was spotted on our territory, we will tell anyone that we handled the situation appropriately." Greyson explained. "There's just one little problem....What about the council? They are due to be making rounds again here soon. We can't let them know she's here. As soon as they see her they will know who she is if they are searching this hard for her?" Greyson jumped off the counter and walked to the window. He didn't have an answer for that. He couldn't lock her in the cells because they would search the entire house, they always toured the house every time they came around, and he couldn't keep her locked in his bedroom either.            Those were the only rooms off limits for anyone to step foot into were the pack rooms. His especially. "What the hell are we going to do about mate?!" Bellamy growled anxiously. Greyson pushed him from his mind and turned back towards Luke. "I don't know." "Hey wait....you can't lie to the council if she's really not here right?" He looked at his beta carefully. "What are you talking about? I can't send her somewhere else with no protection. She has our pack's scent...my scent. The second she leaves this house alone, she's fair game to any wolf that would do God knows what to her especially if they know she's the alpha's mate." "Well it's to dangerous to have the entire pack try and lie to the council, but if you are away on business and you just happen to take your mate with you....." "She really wont be here..." Greyson said catching on. "Luke your a genius! And I know just the business to take care of! I want the entire pack to meet in the meeting room in twenty minutes." Greyson said quickly rushing out of the room to run upstairs.
