The Trees Have Gone

The Trees Have Gone

A Poem by ~A.J.P.~
"

One of my first. A simple poem about a forest that has been cut down. A shorter version of this was published under the title, Where Are They?.

"

The trees have gone--
Their leaves no longer fill the air.
The branches sweetly whispering
Have left I know not where.

In my dreams, I see them,
Walking slowly along dark paths of stone--
Or being chained and taken captive,
Kidnapped from fields they called home.

Today I stand here thinking.
I can hear the parched ground cry,
For its tall protectors have been taken;
Their branches now no longer touch the sky

Rewriting makes it better. A nice poem to be sure . . . I give you a D+3 french hens and a pear tree just because I like getting on your nerves.
