It Grows Nearer

It Grows Nearer

A Poem by Adam Faison

August, September, October
Each month it grows nearer
Nearer to the time I didn't get to be with you
I poured my heart out on that November day
Trying to get you to understand my love for you
But little did I know that your love was to someone else
You had already moved on
Gave your heart to him
He who gets to hold your beauty in his arms
I watch from afar
My heart broken in two
I wonder to myself
"Could I have been quicker?"
"Would it have made a difference?"
But deep down I believe I know the truth
The truth that I will not get to be with you
Get to hold your beauty in my arms
But still I watch
As a gargoyle watches over it's territory
Still and quietly
Waiting for a chance
A chance to be with you
But till that day that may never come
I watch the months go by
And again pass the day that I didn't get to be with you

This is my favorite by far. The weakness and pain that it shows, yet it's beautiful all the same. Truth. The best ingredient in writing.
