A Cook's Dilemma

A Cook's Dilemma

A poem that I did for creative writing. I love cooking, so writing it was even more enjoyable.

A Cook’s Dilemma

Sizzle! Sizzle!

Sounds of hot oil.

Sautee pan is ready.

Minced,

In goes the garlic.

Cooked ‘til aromatic.

Sliced onions join

Harmonizing with peppers.

Crack! Grind! Shake!

Salt and Pepper

Join the mix.

Where to go?

Where to go

From here?

This is a

Dilemma.

Got some herbs,

A chiffonade.

Spices go in

The mortar.

Where’s the pestle?

Grind, grind, grind.

The concoction

Appears appetizing,

But something

Is missing still.

Another dilemma.

Diced protein,

Searing,

Thank you maillard,*

Caramelization

Would be impossible

Without you.

The maillard reaction is a type of non-enzymatic chemical reaction in foods that causes amino acids and sugars to brown.  This is called caramelization.

Reading and writing have always been forms of escapism for me. Some days, I would much rather be engrossed in a story, be it my own or from someone else--I am sure many people can relate to this. .. more..
