Almost RightfulA Story by Anne HudsonSercli, is a young girl who is now officially excepted into the royal family as a princess. She is a small girl who has no idea who she is or what she will be, when a wizard comes to train her...
The crown sits on my head, a perfect circle that felt comfortable. Not too heavy but not too light that I wouldn't feel or forget about it. But I won't ever forget about it ever.
Everyday I ran back and forth to the forges where I was greeted by the greatest smith of all of Charce. He would, day by day, fix and mold and color and drain and melt and hammer and mix and experiment and size and make and create into a crown that he said would be the not perfect ever. Just for me. I stand up and walk slowly out of the room, my poster perfect with my chin up and eyes forward. I'm twelve and I am officially a rightful princess of Charce. I walk out of the room and smile sweetly at my family as they smile back prideful. As soon as I can I reach the outside with the doors closed tight behind me and I race to the forges. "Hail to the princess. How are you little one?" he asks and I laugh with excitement. "Lateik!" I cry and race over. He laughs his warm and comfortable laugh as I run and leap into his arms. I laughs and catches me, hugging me tightly. I hug him back and he rubs my back. "How was the ceremony?" he asks and holds me out so I could see him. "Horrible. But it was the best as soon as I was able to finally see the crown you made me," I say and hug him. "That must be a magical crown," he says and laughs. "Thank you," I whsiper. "Your welcome princess," he says and gently sets me on the ground. He smiles and turns to a piece of iron he was working on, hammering it as I watch. Something felt natural about this place. The heat and the work and the noise. It all seemed like I should always be here. Not in the castle where we didn't do any dirty work and walk around long halls with total separate rooms and doors. This place is close, warm, natural. "Well your the best smith ever," I say and rest my head on my fists on top of the counter. "Why thank you princess," he says and winks at me. I'm about to say something when I hear the bells ring. "Your welcome. I have to go but I'll see you later," I say and race away as my dress waves around me. I wave as I run and he waves back, bringing the hammer down with a hard clang. I laugh and take a shortcut through the side door and race into the main hall. "Sercli!" Lare cries and I leap into her arms. She laughs and swings me in a circle. "We're proud of you sweet heart," the queen says as she kisses my forhead. Lare sets me down and the king hugs me. "You did good," he says. "Thank you," I say and Lare reaches over my head. "You can only ever truly take a crown off once and that's after you put it on. May I take it off for you to truly see it?" she asks and looks at me. I nod and close my eyes as she gently takes it off my head. She then lowers her arms and I open my eyes. The crown is a perfect circle that sits on my head. It curved into three different points all pointing at the sky, one on the left, the right, and the middle. Each top had a small emerald gem at the inside of the point. The whole crown was solid gold, shimmering brilliantly with power but small to show innocence. The center of the middle point stood a small tear shaped gem that turned colors with the different lighting but for now was a clear white. I watch and it seems to turn to a milky white covering what it would look with different colors. I freeze when I see that it had been milky white before they placed it on my head but Lare places it back onto my head. I smile and hug her. "Thank you," I say and she hugs me back. "Of corse," she says and winks at me. "Head to your room now and get ready for bed," the queen says and I skip down the hall. I run to my room and I change into a night gown. I sit at my desk as the candle is lit and I begin to write a little, the words moving in shapes and forms as I concentrate. I keep going, my smile widening when the window bursts open. I gaps and fall back when a great figure flies into the room. I stumble to my feet and look at my bed when I see a small but derive and great owl sits on the side. It faces me, it's great dark brown eyes focused on me. It's a subtle brown with black feathers spread around here and there. And a letter sat in it's mouth. I thought owl messaging was myth but here was a real owl holding a letter, tilting it's head expectingly. I then slowly walk forward and offer my right arm, outstretched before my side. It hops onto my arm, extremely carful to not even touch my flesh with its talons, and looks at me. I then walk out of my room casually and to the queen and king's room. I hesitate then knock on their door. "Hello?" the queen ask from the ofher side and the door opens. "Queen," I say and bow, the owl also bowing as I keep my arm steady. "An owl?" she asks and motions for me to come in. "He flew in through the window and he has a letter," I say and places hand on front if the owl. He drops the letter into my hand and I offer it to the queen. She slowly takes the letter and then opens it as the king walks in. "A wizard," he whispers and reads the letter with her. We wait patiently and I look at the owl when it looks back at me. I freeze and it gives a small smile. I shake my head thinkin my mind was playing tricks on me but it only looks back at the queen and king. "Thank you Sercli. Well we have a visitor coming tomorrow," she says and smiles. I nod and look at the owl. It nods and I smile. "Your welcome. I'll see you in the morning," I say and walk out of the room. With the door shut, the owl spreads it's wings and with the most casutiousness ever it flies off my arm and down the hall. I race after it and it flies to my room. I run into my room and see it swoop just over my head and straight out the window. "Be safe!" I call as I watch it fly into the vast forest. I hear a faint call and smile as it disappears from sight. I knew I'd see it again soon. But not before so many other things coming along. And what wizard? ... © 2014 Anne HudsonAuthor's Note
