The will to live

The will to live

A Poem by Bonnie Paige

The will to live

First of days, I stood by her bedside. My eyes of tears could only beg,
"Please! doctor, don't let her die, Please!" To God in anger, my silent words were said, "all those I have deeply loved you have taken to your home in heaven, don't take her too, for I must go along with her."

In this cold and sterile room, I hide away inside myself. I hide from the noisy chatter, I hide from the warning alarms that beep and ping. I hide from the fear I can hardly bear and hours that are slowly passing by.

A heart now mended by sturdy surgeons hands which brought color to her face and peaceful rest.
I hold her hand gently and raise my tiny smile. Today was a better day!
The surgeons paved the way to life, the nurses asked her for one last task...to breathe, they knew she had the strength to live.

For 38 years I heard her voice, a voice of anger, or hurt, a voice of despair from sadness, her voice of happy days that went so well.
But tonight I heard her
(whisper)
the important word she spoke all her life..."mama!"
Our worlds began again.

Bonnie, firstly, thank you so much for your message. And now, dear friend, thank you for sharing your beautiful, tender and courageous words about your darling girl. 'Mama' - fhat one word says it all.

.. n this cold and sterile room, I hide away inside myself. I hide from the noisy chatter, I hide from the warning alarms that beep and ping. I hide from the fear I can hardly bear and hours that are slowly passing by. ' Such painful words, such real words, Prayers and love to and for you both

That whisper must have been everything. Hearing your name when you were close to losing her. I was in the same position with my own daughter twenty years ago. It was a miracle, she pulled through. Wonderfully conveyed Bonnie.
