The will to liveA Poem by Bonnie Paige
For those who love their children
unconditionally: __________________ To my loving daughter. The will to live First of days, I stood by her bedside. My eyes of tears could only beg, "Please! doctor, don't let her die, Please!" To God in anger, my silent words were said, "all those I have deeply loved you have taken to your home in heaven, don't take her too, for I must go along with her." In this cold and sterile room, I hide away inside myself. I hide from the noisy chatter, I hide from the warning alarms that beep and ping. I hide from the fear I can hardly bear and hours that are slowly passing by. A heart now mended by sturdy surgeons hands which brought color to her face and peaceful rest. I hold her hand gently and raise my tiny smile. Today was a better day! The surgeons paved the way to life, the nurses asked her for one last task...to breathe, they knew she had the strength to live. For 38 years I heard her voice, a voice of anger, or hurt, a voice of despair from sadness, her voice of happy days that went so well. But tonight I heard her (whisper) the important word she spoke all her life..."mama!" Our worlds began again. © 2021 Bonnie PaigeFeatured Review
