Let Us Be

Let Us Be

A Poem by Kerri
"

Just a twelve-lined couplet that I had to do for an English assignment, the issue being in the mindset of my senior year.

"

Let Us Be

Your senior year is supposed to be the best,
But this year it seems we are being put to the test.

With new administration means an all new rule,
But with the way we’re treated, it’s not cool.

We’re being stripped of all our independence
And it will only be worse for our descendants.

Our predecessors knew what we were in for
They laughed because they knew that our year would be a bore.

We should be treated like the adults we are,
Because without that respect, we won’t get very far.

Like needy animals locking in a giant cage,
We need our freedom so we can come of age.
