My old friend (For M)A Poem by boneman5 years ago this month I lost a very dear friend to a violent and sudden heart attack. I never had chance to say goodbye as it was so sudden.
My old friend
I saw your face today my old friend
You were smiling at me just like you used to
Your face as beautiful as ever my friend
Your smile as warm as it always was.
I saw your body today my old friend
You were standing just in front of me
Your body as wonderful as ever my friend
Your arms as strong as they always were
I heard your voice today my old friend
You were whispering in my ear just like you used to
Your voice a melody, your words soothing and gentle
Your accent smooth as it always was
I almost reached out to touch you my old friend
I could smell your cologne, feel it quicken my heart
I could almost feel your skin soft beneath my touch
I could almost taste your lips under mine
I blinked and you vanished again my old friend
You passed beyond my sight once again
My friend you went where I cannot follow you
You passed into my soul and my memory.
Please stay in my memory my old friend
Warm my heart just like you always did
Hold my shaking body just as you used to
Dry these tears I cry for you
I saw you today old friend
Maybe you came to say goodbye
Maybe to say “It’s alright really don’t worry”
Goodbye my old friend I love you.
