A Long Way GoneA Poem by Bonaventure OnuabuchiWritten by Prince Ogbonnaya G. as a birthday gift for me.
In the realm of memories, a tale untold,
Of a journey embarked, a story to unfold, A soul scarred by the battles it has known, A poignant odyssey, a long way gone. From innocence's embrace, torn apart, By the ravages of war, a shattered heart, A child, once carefree, now burdened by strife, Navigating darkness, in search of a new life. Through desolate landscapes, footsteps are traced, Across war-torn valleys, with courage embraced, A symphony of resilience, a spirit held strong, In the face of adversity, resilience a song. Witnessing horrors that no child should bear, Yet preserving a flicker of hope, unaware, Through trials and tribulations, he's forged, The strength to endure, his spirit recharged. In each footstep, echoes of a poignant past, Memories and scars, shadows that will last, But within the heart, a flame still burns bright, A testament to the human spirit's might. Through the wilderness of sorrow, he roams, A testament to the resilience of human souls, And as the journey unfolds, a tale is spun, Of redemption sought, a long way gone. May this story remind us of the power within, To overcome darkness, let healing begin, To strive for a world where peace may prevail, And ensure no child's innocence is impaled. For in the echoes of this odyssey profound, Resides the hope that in humanity, strength is found, A long way gone, but not lost in the fray, A testament to resilience, lighting the way.... © 2023 Bonaventure Onuabuchi |
