A Poem by Hunter Zabbai

woke up at 7, a.m
thought i had to be at work again
so i decided to put on my shirt
"can't believe i gotta go work for this jerk"
minimum wage ain't enough to get paid
to deal with this bullshit and stressful days
i'm losing my mind, biding for time till i die
and the bills wont go bye bye, so i got get hi hi
then the cycle is repeated, another work week
in this world where people kill their brothers for dirt cheap
and it hurts me, and my soul is yearning
we could stop this world from burning, with a little learning
this ain't backpack rap, i'm bringing hip-hop back
down with the flip-flop acts, in the tip-top class
and when rick ross smashes, hip hop collapses
so i quit my job yesterday, walked out the door
coz i always knew my life was worth so much more
dedicated it all to this art form
to get myself away from this dark war
that's in my mind, parked on ward parkway
drove down martway picked up a shortay
i asked her name she said it renee
took her down broadway, up to c n g's
to get her a pipe or bong when she wanted to smoke weed
she told me she quit, i said bullshit
rolled up a spliff and offered her a hit
but she didn't blow smoke, or roll, or snort coke
she said she was in a dark place but now she found hope
when she quit the drugs she was allowed to love
even found a little faith up above
she say she dont need to feed into streoteeps
she just keeps her peeps close, yadadamena?
she's in school to become a stylist
to go grab her dreams, while i miss
