Patterns

Patterns

A Poem by Hunter Zabbai

Puzzles and toy boxes in the little children's classroom
Oh how they they were mesmerized
As they soon knew how to do it all
With the patterns they memorized
Oh my brain, can't I give it a rest?
There be some light with these unemployment checks
The Government taketh, and giveth away
No more complaining, just another day

College bound seniors look at their futures
Through a scared youthful glim fish lens
And they guess they know how to do it all
From the same patterns they'll just repeat again
Oh my brain, why won't you quit?
I'm still so young, and don't wanna commit
The Government giveth, and taketh away
No more complaining, just another day

Now they're all bound to the same nine to five
Still staring at the clock on the wall
It's the same goddamn thing, that we did before
When we we forced to walk through the halls
Oh my brain, why won't you work?
I guess there's no pain if you just can't hurt
The Government rapeth, and taketh away
Maybe I'll complain, but it's already too late
