SpeechlessA Poem by Hunter Zabbai
I wish I had a voicebox
Oh I wish I had a voicebox The things I would say? Ha. Well. First of all I'd clear my throat. Breathe the air in deep And hold it in. I'd want to be prepared. Next I'd make a phrase. Say it loudly so that everyone could hear me. I'd use clear words, complex and mundane. Vocabulary is something I'd remember today. But no one would listen. Not a single word. What was that? Did someone say something? Quiet down I'm trying to speak Let me think, let me breathe If I could just say something to you I wouldn't even waste my time Saying how your hair flows down like a princess And I fell in love when I was seven years old And you wore that little dress And how everyone's a fake copy of the things they hate And if you were ever suffocating you could take my breath away The way your smile lights up your face And I could be with you everyday Till we waste away But oh no. I can't seem to speak. If I only had a voicebox.
