Limbus Infantum

Limbus Infantum

A Poem by Schatz
"

Inspired by what the priest told my mother about the fate of her still born child and how it hurt her (and pissed her off enough to leave the Catholic Church)

"

My brother went to limbo

Stillborn and unbaptized

Faultless but Original Sin

Status unknown

A soul in liminal space

Lost between heaven and hell

Damnation spared

Salvation denied

Consigned by papal decree

Resigned to the Mercy of God

Wrenched, a mother's heart

Some but not all priests are heartless fools who think more of the invisible than the weeping woman nearby.

My mother was RC and left the church because of its antiquated and heartless attitudes. For any human being to say such a cruel comment to a grieving woman does not understand the meaning of his bible.
Thank goodness, there have been changes and changes afoot.

A fine piece of writing than needed to be shown.

This is a really powerful piece. Although I myself was never Catholic, I hear that sometimes the views can be pretty intense. I myself have differing views, which at times have been clashed with by others. I tend to keep those sides of me to myself, lacing them in my work. This poem feels like it has even more to say, yet a hand has been placed over its mouth. Its a powerful effect I fail to properly put into words. Cut, firm, to the point, while having worlds of meaning behind each word. This is well written, even if the subject matter is heavy. A good poem and a good read, friend.
