The Sky, it Sings!

The Sky, it Sings!

A Poem by Blysful
"

The world can be brilliantly beautiful even at its darkest.

"
They would have loved the sky tonight.
It's bright and warm and wonderful.
There are colours I've never seen before,
and never will again, I'm sure.
It's been so long since I've cared to fight
- there's nothing left that's beautiful.
Not 'til the sky set aflame above me
and the world aligned so perfectly.

They would have cherished this moment,
where the air is crisp and magical.
Blues and greens and pinks bleeding into light
emblazoning heaven with whispish might.
There's no start to my atonement
- none that would not appear hurtful,
For leaving them to die in the dim
whilst I dared continue living.

Ah! But they would have loved the sky
Reflected on the callous snow
where it dances on my reaching fingers
Flickers, uncertain, then lingers.
I would have loved to see them cry,
when faced with such a vivid show,
Their joy would be enough to keep me warm
but now to cold I do conform.

They'd still love me dearly, I know.
Though I've failed for all these years
to forget their souls and forgive my sin
living undeserving in this skin.
The war was death, hate and sorrow.
It manifested all my fears.
I tracked bodies, bombs and bloodied mountains
where liberty from anguish beckons.

They must have led me here, I think
eyes alight with iridescence.
For all I've lost and the hell I've traversed
they've shown me the whole Universe!
The Frost is crawling up my skin
encouraged by my acceptance
- for who would wish to stay alive when faced
With such a welcoming disgrace?

I hear them laugh and call to me
through the whispers of the Many.
The lights, a twirling dawn in darkest night,
sweep down to me with great delight.
All I feel is weightless and glee
as I am plucked from my body.
The sky, it sings! 'Welcome! Come and dance too!'
And in a blaze of light, I flew.

This is a brilliant construction of your imagination (but very true to life). I love the way the actual writing is crafted (straightforward, yet lyrical), along with the message, a dance between jubilation & deep lingering sadness. I couldn't believe the haunting effect of the words: "They would've loved . . ." . . . we knew right away someone was missing from this person's life, we felt the regret & longing all along, but I never expected this outcome for your story. I think you've really nailed it, how a person could torture him/herself for a lifetime, after experiencing the killing fields of war. Very mind blowing & unforgettable.

I can't thank you enough for this wonderful review!! But I'll try. THANK YOU!!
I love this. It has a good flow and is I liked the rhythm of it.
The overall poem is rather sad and bittersweet. I loved the imagery that was used it was very vivid I felt like I was shivering in the snow watching the northern lights as well. :D
It's one of my favorites!
