Chapter Six: SoonA Chapter by BluefireThey'll be the ones crying out for mercy.
"It's a shame you wouldn't let me kill them. You must get rid of that bad habbit once you die." Dr. Arvieron said. I could hear the disappointment in his voice. A pang of shame pierced my heart.
Wait. What? Guilt made the cuts on my hands and the bruises on my stomach and arm ache. Then I remembered who had given me those cuts and bruises. No. I'm not the monster here. I told myself. He's nothing but crazy scum, just like his daddy. How had they known about my dad? It wasn't like it was public knowledge or anything. He had been admitted even before we'd moved here. Though, his transfer was the reason we'd had to come to this town in the first place. Anger flared up within my body. I gritted my teeth, wanting to punch something. No. Someone. A hand rested on my shoulder, yanking me out of my reverie and into reality. I looked up at Arvieron. He was easily seven feet tall. Thin enough to be considered agile, yet still powerful. Unlike me, the scrawny bully magnet. "Don't let their words destroy you. You signed the warrant. You'll be powerful one day soon and they'll be the ones crying out for mercy." Soon. "I never cried out for mercy." I told him. "I only called for you. It was in the contract. You could save me from miner threats but nothing life threatening. Right?" He nodded. "Very good. You're the first to read it all the way through. Most just see that they'll come back to life when they die and conveniantly forget the details." I found myself beaming stupidly at his praise, like when I was little and my father would complement the tiny wooden aeroplanes I used to build. The sun was going to set. "I wanna talk to Mollei, think you can do that trick you did with my mom yesterday?" I asked after a pause. "What trick?" He asked. I stared at him. This had to be a joke. His face showed no sign of suddenly yelling out, joking! I shivered. "Nothing. Never mind. I guess I could always sneak out or something." I said with a shrug. We continued to walk down the sidewalk next to the highway in silence. I could see my street just up ahead. As we neared, I turned, my mouth open to ask a question but it was too late. Dr. Arvieron was gone. © 2014 BluefireAuthor's NoteReviews
