Wishes In The Sky

Each star shone luminescent 

wishes hanging in the sky

and as I sat and wondered

what they may signify 

the pale yellow moon

rose above the treeline 

bathing pine and fir

with a gentle light

their shadows fell short

upon the earth

darker even than the night

A rustling sounds

beneath the hedge

made loud in the quiet

for all the houses doors have shut

their occupants tucked in bed

It's easy to imagine

I'm the only soul around

as I sit here still wondering

at the wishes above my head
