A Song For Today

A Song For Today

A Poem by Jaci

An owl calls plaintively
from his lonely nest
high up in the evergreen
just past the neighbors house
Another voice echos him
down across the way
It seems a shared question
of which they both do say
A robin pecks at the earth
between blades of grass
another now joins him
searching for breakfast
Bursts of song from many trees
soon fill the morning air
I had no idea
there were so many birds up there
I close my eyes and listen
and wish I too had wings
and a voice fit for singing along
with the uplifting melody
