Sounds In The Dark

Sounds In The Dark

A Poem by Jaci

The wind attempts to claim

everything.

Taken the beat

of an aching heart

(lonely)

wrapped it up in cold dark.

Where are the blankets?

They've slid upon the floor.

The door creaks

when the cat comes in

and again, again, again

with the rain!

That old blasted pain.

Wind howls around corners

screams through the trees

drowning out even my dreams.

They marched on it seems.

Too much sound

and I sure can't see in the dark.

The cat makes an exit.

I need to oil those hinges

buy some ear plugs

and ease my way back

to the extraordinary

byways and highways of sleep.
