Creepy

The night has fallen like iron from the sky,
A wolf howls his battle cry
The only light comes from the full moon
It's nights like this that evil can commune

My pace quickens as I see shadows
I must venture where light never goes
I shouldn't have gone so far from home
It's a bad habit to want to roam

Not a car in sight
No not a single headlight
I believe I hear something following me
I look behind but I cannot see

Terrible images fill my mind
The dark closes around me and I feel confined
What is this stranger, I cannot tell
Will it reach out, grab me, and drag me to hell?

I feel as if it is gaining on me from behind
I shake my head and hope it's just in my mind
One way to tell so I stop moving
Whatever it is, it stopped pursuing

I take a few steps and listen closely,
There it is again, something ghostly!
Suddenly there is evil laughter,
Now I'm certain it's me its after.

Where do I go, what do I do?
I'm almost sure my life is through.
In my panic, I take a right turn,
I try to hide and try not to squirm.

Was just the wind blowing the leaves?
Trying to convince my mind it's not what it believes.
A flash of lightning, clouds have covered the moon,
This reassurance has not come too soon.

In that small little flash I saw it was nothing,
Even though I thought it was something.
A sigh of relief though my heart is pounding,
It's what I deserve for this little outing.

I can't believe my mind's playing tricks,
In all my years have I become so thick?
I laugh at myself for what I had thought,
I was so sure it was the farm I had bought.

I turn around and begin to head back,
I don't believe how much courage I lack.
Never again will I roam so late,
Wandering the dark and tempting fate.

The night should never fill me with dread,
It's time for me to head to my bed.
Tonight was full of terrible excitement,
Believing I was followed by ill intent.
