Response to Hate

I do not understand how a person can hate another
To need to kill a sister or brother.
To cause families to weep and grieve
All because of what they believe.
We are all here to learn and to grow
But they are here to cause sorrow.
Maybe hate is what they were taught
Maybe they were told to be what they are not.
Perhaps what they hate is their own being
Maybe it makes them hate everything.
What defeats hate is love
Love from a person or love from above.
Please know that I don't hate you
Respect and tolerance is what I can do
If we could simply come face to face
Maybe the world would be a much better place.
