Dougy Fink

Dougy Fink

A Poem by BlueEyedBandit
"

A children's book of sorts. I wanted to illustrate it at some point.

"

Dougy Fink was a rotten boy at the horrid age of seven.

He broke his little sister's dolls and told her "There's no Heaven."

He liked to see people cry and make them feel real sad.

He liked to punch and kick and hit, even his own dad.

No one likes a kid like Dougy,

No one in their right mind.

But something happened one fine day,

From someone warm and kind.

Polly West was sweet and nice, never did she cuss.

She liked to dance and sing and talk and never put up a fuss.

One day Polly came across this horrid little Fink.

And she didn't think what you probably thought this little girl would think.

She didn't find him rude or snotty not even a little rotten.

For she always said, " Forgive and forget for tomorrow is already forgotten."

Dougy saw Polly and was ready to make her cry.

He tried with all his might, but not one tear was in her eye.

Dougy asked, " What makes you so happy, so cheery, and so gay?

I want to make those happy thoughts go far away"

Polly smiled and laughed and thought nothing bad.

Simply she said, "It's so very easy, boy. I've just never been sad."

Dougy couldn't believe his ears, she had never been sad?

Not even when yelled at for doing something bad?

How could this be? He couldn't quite grasp, how she'd never had a single woe.

"This is abusurd" he thought to himself, "She's too happy. She really must go!"

He turned away and began to think, " How can I make her split?"

His eyes grew dark for he had a plan as he worked up a wad of spit.

Quickly Dougy turned around and spit right in her eye.

Polly didn't even wince, she merely ask, "Why?"

Dougy scratched his head without an answer at hand.

He thought and thought to think a thought, but nothing did he have.

Maybe he was just rotten, just bad to the bone.

He now noticed that this made him feel very alone.

What could he do, what could say?

There was nothing to do but pout.

Dougy reached and pushed the spit away.

And said,"I've been an awful grouch."

Polly reached out her hand and took his in her own.

"You're just an unlit candle, Dougy, one that's never shown."

With this Dougy realized that maybe it's better to be good.

If Polly was so happy that way, maybe he really could.

So from there on out the duo spent, hours and many days.

Learning how to be nice to others and help in kind ways.

He fixed up all the broken dollies and said sorry to his dad.

He even tried to listen in church.. But fell asleep instead.

Dougy Fink was something else, and everyone knew him well.

He was now a good boy, with an ever so often naughty spell.

Polly West was something great, that crawled into his life.

Little did Dougy know, someday, she'd become his nagging wife.
